Sedation Dentistry & Calming Dental Care in San Antonio
At Inwood Family Dental, we understand that visiting the dentist can be stressful for some patients. Whether you experience dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or simply prefer to be asleep for procedures, our sedation dentistry options help you feel safe, calm, and comfortable during treatment.
Why Sedation Dentistry Helps Patients with Dental Anxiety
Dental anxiety affects millions of people, causing them to avoid necessary care. Sedation dentistry allows patients to relax or even sleep through their appointments, reducing fear and making visits stress-free. With personalized sedation plans, our team ensures your comfort from start to finish.
Safe Options for Sleep Dentistry & Relaxation
We offer a variety of sedation methods tailored to your needs, including:
• Oral sedation (pills to relax before treatment)
• Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild to moderate anxiety
• IV sedation for deeper relaxation or longer procedures
All sedation is administered by trained professionals with safety and monitoring as the top priority.
Dental Sedation for Heavy Gag Reflex
A strong gag reflex can make dental treatment difficult or impossible. Sedation can help suppress this reflex, allowing for smooth, stress-free procedures. Our patients with gag sensitivity often find sedation dentistry life-changing, enabling them to finally receive necessary dental care.
Our Gentle Approach to Stress-Free Dental Care
Beyond sedation, we focus on creating a calm, welcoming environment for every patient. Our team uses gentle techniques, clear explanations, and personalized attention to help you feel at ease. From the moment you arrive, your comfort is our priority.
sedation options:
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide sedation, also known as “laughing gas,” is commonly used to make treatment more comfortable. This sedation is inhaled through a mask that allows you to breathe in the medication and induces a state of relaxation. A local anesthetic will be administered in conjunction with nitrous oxide to eliminate pain. Nitrous oxide can be used for any procedure including dental cleanings, fillings, and surgery. You do not need an escort and can drive home safely afterward.
oral sedation
An oral sedative pill will be provided to you before and during the appt to help calm you. This will make you feel sleepy and relaxed, but you will still be able to communicate and remember the procedure. Oral sedatives do not provide pain relief, so an injection of local anesthetic will also be administered. You will need an escort and you cannot drive to or from the appt. This can be used for any procedure from dental cleanings to oral surgery.
IV Sedation is our highest level of sedation. It allows patients to be asleep and in an extreme state of relaxation. Most patients do not remember the procedure. IV sedation does not provide pain relief, so a local anesthetic will also be administered. IV sedation can be used for various procedures such as wisdom teeth removal, implants, or multiple restorations.
